TruTV Looking For More Laughs With ‘Adam Ruins Everything’

As part of its programming overhaul that includes more comedies, TruTV has ordered a pilot for Adam Ruins Everything, the tentative title of a half-hour investigative comedy starring comedian Adam Conover. The project was born out of a CollegeHumor original series that has generated more than 20 million views since premiering online in February 2014.

The move comes just more than a week after parent Turner pacted with comedian Billy Eichner to move his Billy On The Street With Billy Eichner from Fuse. A 10-episode fourth season of the series will become a TruTV original and TBS will run encores. The network’s new head of programming Chris Linn also is ramping up TruTV’s scripted laugh game giving a pilot order for a workplace comedy loosely based on the business empire of Shaquille O’Neal that the NBA star will will topline and produce, that coming on the heels of the network’s first scripted comedy order for Those Who Can’t.

TruTV is in need of a ratings turnaround after a -31% decline last year.

In Adam Ruins Everything, Conover explores topics and ideas many people take for granted and dispels widespread misconceptions through a combination of comedy, history, and science. LA-based Big Breakfast is producing. The original CollegeHumor short was titled Why Engagement Rings Are a Scam
